Angel of the North

On our way up to Scotland, we stopped just outside of Newcastle to see the Angel of the North. Kind of like the world's largest ball of string, only much, much cooler.

It stands 66 feet tall, and the wingspan is 177 feet. The body weighs 100 tons, and each wing weighs 50 tons. It is anchored 70 feet underground in 600 tons of concrete.

 Staring up at it against the moving clouds, the angel looks like it is flying.

Yeah, wow.
