Snowing Again

Corey left the other day and took the bright, bright sun and blue skies with him. Since he left, we have had about 2 feet of snow, interspersed with 30 mph winds, hail and rain. A good time has been had by all.

I went for a walk to Totem Park and the Indian River outlet. Scared a gaggle of geese into the wind.

The snow has been very heavy, great for snow balls, but the weight drags the branches to the ground.

This tree is bent completely over.

The tree limbs are all bowing to the river, weighted down by the snow.

I slid and fell down the river bank (since no one was there to see it, I'll say it was a good 10-15 feet of treacherous snow and ice covered sharp rocks), but it was worth it to get these next shots.

Harbor Frozen

It's been so cold here that the water in Crescent Harbor has been frozen for the last few days. It snowed some last night, so it is even weirder to see snow where the water should be. The usual low temperature for this time of year is about 32. The lowest I've seen it is -5, and it's been at 0 or below for the past week. Right now it's a balmy 30, so I'm thinking of putting on my shorts and flip flops.

These pictures probably make my buddy John (who lives on his boat in San Diego), seriously think about moving up here.

Corey the Baker

Corey soon got to work making soda farls, bread, and bagels. We prefer making our own bread because we know what's in it, and the over $5 for a loaf of bread price brings a tear to me eyes.

Shaping the bagels for boiling and baking.

Voila! Poppyseed, cinnamon, plain, honey and oat bran!

It has been near 0 or below 0 degrees here for most of the week, so staying inside and baking seems like the sane option.

Corey is Up Visiting

Corey made it up from San Diego to Sitka after spending a few days in Seattle seeing his brother Jamie and Sis-In-Law Greta (oh powerful and wise Fantasy Football Champ). We went for a stroll yesterday as the snow was sprinkling down. The skies are supposed to be clear for the next 5 days, as the temperature heads down into the teens or single digits!

A little different than the beach he is used to in San Diego.

Cross Trail Walk

It has been raining heavily here for the last few days, so most of the snow is gone, especially in town. There is still a bit of snow on the trails, and of course, lots of snow in the mountains. The weather broke today, so I headed out for a hike on part of the Cross Trail. It started to snow as I was out on the trail, even though the sky was mostly clear, except for the cloud above me.

The boards were buried under the snow the last time I walked here.

Further out on the trail the ice and snow persist.

 My favorite peak, Mt. Verstovia.

Someone has decorated a tree for the holidays.

Kirsty got me this soap for Christmas. Not sure if there is a hidden agenda here or not!
