The Rest of the (French) Story

Here, as promised are the rest of the stops made on the canal cruise. I am now in Withernwick, England in Kirsty's mom's house (a lovely 170 year old cottage) and she has broadband. Go figure!!
The next pictures are from Montargis:
My digs.

Used to be a chateau, now it is a cooking school.

The next pictures are from Rogny. The famous staircase of seven locks from the 17th century is now classifed as a French monument. It was conceived by Henry IV in 1597 as a way of linking the Mediterranean Sea with the Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel. However, as the Rogny side was lower a series of 7 locks was developed. Work started in 1604 but was only completed in 1642 when the first boat passed from the Loire to the Seine. The 'staircase' has been replaced by a new layout which goes round the hill and the locks have fallen into disrepair.

 The town hall.

The next pictures are from Briare.
View from the hall of my hotel.

The church in Briare had enamel mosaic panels on the outside.

Sitting outside at a Thai restaurant.

The next pictures are of the canal that crosses over the Loire River.

Emma (the Chef).

View of the Loire from the canal.

The next pictures are from Gien. When we were at the train station in Briare, a man saw my Dave Matthews t-shirt and said "Dave Matthews rocks!"

The happy couple!

Paris is next my friends. Peace to you all!
